The Devil Queen

How my wife and I sold our souls to the Queen Anne Victorian we tried to save.

My Photo
Name:
Location: Crow Mountain, Arkansas, United States

Synopsis: This is a cautionary tale. A seriously disturbed couple find the charming, old ruin of a Queen Anne Victorian in Russellville, Arkansas, and buy it for $1.00. They tore the roof off, cut it in half, and had it moved to some land they owned sixteen miles away because they didn't know any better. Since then, they have hired and fired contractors, had all of their tools stolen, re-wired, re-plumbed, insulated, and essentially rebuilt the entire house. Their only problem is that after four years it still isn't finished. Now they are tired, broke, and wonder what in the hell it is they've done to themselves. And, it's haunted.

The Queen Is Dead, Long Live the Queen

All the paperwork has been signed. Providing there are no un-dotted i's or un-crossed t's, the deal is done. The Devil Queen has been sold. A sad day of much rejoicing.

More to come.

Wow, what a long and entertaing journey it's been. I'm going to miss the trials and tribulations of the goings on at The Devil Queen. Congratulations and I hope you made a nice profit for the years of grief she's given you. Hope to read more in the future as you provide one very interesting and entertaining blog. Good Luck!

BTW, did you intentionally post at 3:33 pm, as its half the number traditionally associated with all things evil? Or was that just an unsettling and rather unnerving coincidence??

Oh, how I have (silently) loved your blog! Congratulations on selling the devil queen, and I hope that this experience has brought you more joy than sorrow...

Please, please, keep this blog up for reference! We who are still in the battle can use a dose of retrospective shared woe now and again.

Here's something you can take away from this (in addition to the equity proceeds and your sanity, I hope): You say in your blog header that you "tried to save" the Devil Queen. Considering that you've found a willing buyer for her, I'd say the two of you succeeded! Conga conga rats rats rats, indeed!

I hold a special place in the reading on and commenting of this blog... There is 10 acres of land just down Waterfalls rd there on Crw Mtn and I own 5 of them. I never got to know you, but loved getting to know the story of the house of my ex-soon-to-be neighbor. At first, I wanted to build a house on the 5 acres but after your haunted story I don't know if I can live that close to a devil : ) Good luck with everything else now that you have your soul back.

What a long, strange trip it's been! Glad you're making what sounds like the right decision, very sorry we won't be hearing any more acidly hilarious tales from the crypt. I join the gang in hoping your voice and art won't disappear from the blogosphere now that the old girl is changing hands. I also honor you for being about the most insanely indefatigable renovator in the world. Your ceiling- and floor-scraping posts redefined the limits of human endurance for me. Most of all, thanks for an absolutely unique blend of funny, true, and useful. Good luck!

....before you leave, you should have a priest in for an exorcism. HELL, you should have STARTED with a priest before you moved in, but hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

*sniffles*

I'm gonna miss you guys.

Congrats on selling the Devil Queen...I always loved your blog because your exasperation at your house typically echoed how my husband and I felt about our own special devilish old house. After 4 years of excruciating renovations, and being 95% finished, we are now considering selling our house. My husband has developed some sort of irrational hatred towards our house, even in its "finished" state. I hope you feel free from the weight of the Queen.

Congrats! From a selfish standpoint, I'm going to miss reading posts from one of the old-timer house blogs. Let us know if a new blog surfaces.

Please, before you go, I've only just discovered your nightmare. I'm in one of my own and I need to know if the RemovALL worked. We have been attempting to remove the paint with heatguns and it's a pain in the ass.

I found only one blog entry with the mention of RemovALL in it so can't tell if that's how you stripped your paint.

Thanks for any advice. (selling isn't an option, it's too much of a mess..)
